Walmart sells shoes site to private equity company.
The domain name Shoes.com has its fourth owner in less than six years after Wal-Mart sold the business to a private equity company.
Brown Shoe Co. sold the business in 2014 to online shoe seller ShoeME. ShoeME closed down in early 2017. Walmart bought Shoes.com’s intellectual property, including the valuable domain name, for $9 million that year. It made Shoes.com the flagship domain for ShoeBuy, which it bought from IAC in 2016.
Now, Walmart is selling the business to CriticalPoint Capital as it focuses on selling online through its core Walmart.com brand.
The domain name reminds me somewhat of Clothing.com, which is currently on the market, although Shoes.com is more specific and seems like a more valuable domain to me.
Shoes.com is many times better than Clothing.com but the name is still out of favor being an EMD.
Walmart is making the right choice to sell it and focus on their core brand, they should never have bought Shoes.com, ditto for Jet.
Very interesting event.
Says the 7-figure seller of Hippo.com. You’re such a whinger. Take your negativity some place else.
Shoes.com is a fantastic domain name! WalMart should of kept the domain name and business IMO. Can’t go wrong with owning a one-word generic EMD domain name.
Sure, but there’s a price at which you should sell a domain, right?
Yes, but only if you sell it for more than what you paid for it. Probably sold for less than 9 million.
Not sure why WalMart also wants in on TikTok either. Makes no sense.
