Kassey Lee evaluates some of the four-letter/number combo sales in March.
Here are some 4-character domains sold in March as reported by Namebio. I’ll try to look at them from a Chinese perspective, focusing on those with corresponding .cn or .com.cn sites already developed.
SF88.com sold for $8,100. The domain is already listed for sale and marketed as Chinese brand Shun Feng Cai Piao (顺丰彩票=favorable and fertile lottery tickets). SF stands for Shun Feng and 88 is about luck, so the domain is related to the Chinese brand.
HG81.com sold for $3,250. HG81 .cn is a casino site operated by Crown Macau. HG may be an acronym for Huang Guan (皇冠=imperial crown) but 81 does not seem to be related to the Chinese brand.
8UUU.com sold for $1,155. 8UUU .cn appears to be a site providing information related to soccer betting. It feels like a website developed in the 1990s and can be overwhelming to look at the many flashy links.
XIN3.com sold for $704. XIN3.cn is a portal of information in a variety of fields including real estate, finance, and economics. It may likely be a personal site. The title is Xin Mei Ti Yun Ying (新媒体运营=new media business), so the domain partially matches the title.
51GG.com sold for $570. 51GG.com.cn is about activated carbon products by the company You Lian (友联=friend joining). The site is very rudimentary. Often 51 is used to rhyme with Wei Yi (唯一=one and only one), Wo Yao (我要=I want), Wu You (无忧=without worries), etc. but in this case, I can’t see how 51GG is related to the company name.
28PJ.com sold for $555. 28PJ.cn is a platform called Xin Yun 28 (幸运=luck) operated by the The Happiness Institute of Psychology to provide psychology-related services. The domain matches only part of the brand.
Overall, brand-matching is an issue in the choice of domains by these companies.
