Younger people are (slightly) more likely to observe ageism in the ICANN community than older people.
When you hear the word ageism, most people think of stereotypes and exclusion toward older people. At ICANN, it’s the reverse.
That’s according to a non-scientific survey the group took to understand ageism and age diversity within the ICANN community.
People under 35 reported higher incidents of ageism than older people.
But the margins are slim. While 10% of people under 35 reported that they “more often felt excluded than included” because of their age, 5% of those over 50 said the same.
19% of people under 35 say they have experienced ageism within the ICANN community. 11% of those over 50 said the same.
The numbers are really quite close. Younger people might be more aware of ageism than other cohorts, too.
Overall, the survey doesn’t have any earth-shattering information for ICANN to act upon. However, it’s important for organizations to continually recruit younger people to join the ranks.
