Inventor created program to find synonyms.
Instant Brands Inc., maker of the popular Instant Pot cooking appliance, is merging with housewares company Corelle Brands LLC.
Ottawa Citizen has the story on how Instant Pot inventor Robert Wang came up with the name for the now iconic device:
He tested recipes with his family and turned to computer science to come up with a name. After writing a program that matched synonyms for “fast” with synonyms for “cooker,” Wang arrived on Instant Pot. Luckily, the domain name was still available.
The story has some other interesting info about how Wang was able to build the business thanks to Amazon.
In an upcoming episode of the DNW Podcast I will interview a company and product namer and discuss some of the tools you can use to create new names.

I ordered one from Amazon. Imagine my disappointment when I found out that it is just a pressure cooker with a timer.

There was a reason it was available, you’d need to be high to have reg’d it with no use. I pled with the domain community to not now collective reg 100’s of thousands of dollars worth of “Instant” none matching two word domains. We need to make those commercials they used to have “the more you know” or ” now you know” and a rainbow with a dot instead of a star.

Curious timing of this article, I had never heard of it until the weekend just passed whilst watching a ‘campervan’ Youtube Video. It was mentioned and I looked it up. It is an easy to remember product.

Did sound like marijuana from the headline.
