Domain names from the Ethereum Name System can now be sold on Sedo.
.ETH domain names are not part of the domain name system you use to send email and visit websites. It’s also not like the alt-root domain names that have popped up from time to time.
Yet they have a goal that’s similar to domain names — make addresses that would be long, incomprehensible strings easier to remember. For example, a user can use a .eth domain for a wallet address.
But .eth domain names are quite complicated. It’s a fairly new system that will change and evolve over time, so owners really need to know what they’re buying. For example, a dispute resolution process is likely to be introduced at some point.
And those high prices you’ve seen for .eth domain auctions, such as exchange.eth for $600,000? Here’s the thing; the buyer of that domain name can relinquish it after one year and get his money (ether) back.
There are a handful of .eth domains already listed on Sedo. Most of them are IDN domain names that mix scripts but look like names such as payments.eth and trading.eth. (This makes me think .eth domains will have their own version of phishing.)
.ETH domain names might be worth a look, but I’d advise anyone interested to spend quite a lot of time researching and understanding the space.
Please send any extra eth or erc20 tokens to Contrib.eth and well make sure its goes into good use 🙂 . Once people can send crypto payments to human readable URL’s, like contrib.eth, it will explode up. Its one of many things holding back the industry when you can never remember where to send. Soon after you will see support for other tlds like .com supporting crypto payments so while its a novel utility to sync .eth addresses with your wallet, it will be quickly implemented across the TLD space this year..
If you can’t figure out how to register new .eth names using Ether you can buy them in cash from Internet.bs – Check under the Products tab for “Blockchain Names”
thanks for both tips above, when i looked at these last year it seems it was a presale, was dependent on “if” their system became acceptable later, and “IF” everyone used their system.
do these work right now to everyone?
thanks for any help,
and on the one year giveup, with .ETH big rise, some people who paid X in eth years ago could get 10x – 50x back now right for surrendering.
Page, they are only accessible from your metamask or Eth browser and do not work as they are not in the rootzone. Most people bought them just to store ther eth and to lock in pricing before the main market catches on, i.e. homesteading again back 1996 days.. Not sure it will ever catch on as the same utility will be coming to new TLD’s soon once they get the DNSSec stuff nailed.. hope that helps..
Exactly right. You could get a payoff in a year from either the name or the increase in the held ETH
Not sure if the .eth extension will catch on, but it’s a cool idea.
Per cryptocurrencies, I like ethereum the most due to the technology, the blockchain platform, and the companies (Amazon, Microsoft and more) and persons on the Ethereum team.
Per Cryptocurrencies: we’ll see: it’s still too early to forecast.
Per Blockchain: definitely here to stay,
Reminds me of the 1990’s when eDNS offered .corp .web and .fam
This is very different from those alt-roots as they will be used in a very different way.
You can send eth or any erc20 token right now to contrib.eth and will show some examples of how its being used. They are being used to solve the human problem like the DNS did for IP addresses.. Starts with IP addresses until DNS system we created.. Same here, blockchain /eth using 0X address but this will do for crypto what DNS did for domains.. Watch the two merge as we are now with our assets.. great times to play both crypto and urls..
Herewith com.eth .ETH domain hacks.
Whosever hack.eth well prosper.eth.
