Tech giant registers three domain names related to blockchain and cryptocurrencies.
Amazon.com registered three domain names yesterday related to blockchain and cryptocurrencies: amazoncryptocurrencies.com, amazoncryptocurrency.com and amazonethereum.com.
The domain name registrations might suggest that Amazon is getting ready to do something on the Ethereum blockchain or release its own cryptocurrency. However, I caution that Amazon is overzealous when it comes to defensive domain name registrations. I believe that some of the registrations are done at arms-length by a brand protection agency.
The registrations come a week after Ethereum co-founder Joseph Lubin graded tech giants on their blockchain readiness. On Amazon, Lubin said “Amazon, we’ve not seen that much, so we’ll see.”

I see a Court case coming, since Ethereum (TM) is a Trademark and thus Amazon(tm) may well find themselves on the other side of the UDRP for a change.
J.R. says
Yep. I was going to post the same thing. Great observation.
Alexv says
It dosent matter, is a currency! Is even better for etherum!
J.R. says
Now, how does this impact the sell of Ethereum.com? Does this create a UDRP situation where Ethereum Org goes after Amazon and Ethereum.com registrant on cyber-squatting claim?
…stay tuned.

Ethereum going to $1000 after Amazon partnership. ETH is at $300 now…buy all you can…Good Luck…you heard it here first.
Josh says
Amazon will not partner with an unstable coin that has had so many security issues with using it to create your own its a nightmare waiting to happen. My guess is it’s just a name they picked up to offer it for sale. They also own amazonbitcoin.com does that mean they will partner with them too LOL
Stew says
Let me guess, you own bitcoin?.
Josh says
Yes, left with my last 10 coins
Geir says
Why don’t you read up on what ethereum actually is, and then comment? It’s not just a ”coin” like bitcoin. It’s a platform that companies and people can build upon.
Nuno Bispo says
Josh, you definitely don’t know what are you talking about. Get informed before of just shouting your own thoughts and biased perception
Ethereum has more stability for long term sustainability than BTC.

Josh says
For starters I was being sarcastic and secondly I know ethereum quite well, VERY well. It is still a security risk to build a coin on, google it but more theft happened as a result then any other coin.
Mat says
Google it LOL that is the problem with everyone these days, don’t believe everything you read on the internet.
Josh says
@Mat, just google it and come back

Amazon is it’s own eco system literally, it is time for it’s own currency.
There are many in the Seattle area who will be having a very nice xmas this year.
Mugambo Group Inc. says
Well, let’s keep our fingers crossed until we see what Ethereum’s response will be.
Job Ninja 2.0 says
Logic would suggest that they are positioning themselves for a crypto that’s accepts in grocery chain and at home delivery of goods for brand recognition.
iota says
Obviously, Amazon would only use IOTA. It’s the only crypto that makes sense (unlimited scalability, No forks or spoons and feeless. Eth and Bitcoin are useless and cost too much, too slow and over valued. Get off the hype train of Historic Cryptos.
BobbyAzarian says
Would they ever use Lisk? I just bought Amazonlisk.com
Mat says
Cyber squatting
HB says
This is not news. Amazon Coin has been available since forever.

Thanks!

IMO a anti-cybersquatting move. They may be working at a Amazon cryptocurrency but they will probably implement it directly on their main website as a form of payment and maybe even a wallet.
Peter says
What if someone owns the domain names with cryptocurrency.com and bitcon.com, for social media giants, casinos, gas stations, sporting franchises and airlines in the similar way that Amazon purchased them? Just asking for a friend? Thanks for feedback.
richfrostuk says
Amazon have already been working with the Electroneum team a new currency that is much better suited. This is already one of the most traded cryptocurrencies and it’s not even fully live yet. Now I’m not saying it will be adopted amazon just yet but over the coming months expect it to be available to a much bigger audience that previous coins… its going to be massive!
joesaba2014 says
I do not understand this news from Amazon to register domains with your brand and fashion names in currency that is the order of the day in the online news.
Amazon is the owner of the global markets of sales to users, someday create a department of currency exchange Amazon personalized for the business that use Amazon and for end users, is the most immediate future of buying and selling cash with these new coins
Supratik says
AmazonBitcoin.com also…
Wally says
ecommerce will be fighting with cryptocurrencies to be the face of payments. Banks are completely out of the equation and banking is going to endure tough times ahead
kevin kelly says
Amazon has no choice but to accept Bitcoin as Its biggest competitors already do as in Microsoft and Overstockwhich also just launched their own crypto coin . Bitcoin will shoot beyond 1Million in 2018 do the math its common sense. Blockchain and now Hashgraph which is faster is the future of decentralized economy.

my bet is on Request token 😉
Edward Haugh says
if you look deep enough, there are strong hints 😉
Edward Haugh says
I suggest to look at Request Network – there are very strong hints they plan to work with Amazon & Alibaba & other ecommerce giants in 2018
Consider the fact it’s instantly connected with all ERC20 tokens and one of the main contributors is from Bitcoin…. 1 + 1 = Request
Could easily be wrong but I would be surprised if it were not Request at this point.
You should do your own research obviously, you may or may not come to the same conclusion.
