First Zika, then Hurricane Maria.
Hurricane Maria might necessitate moving an ICANN meeting away from Puerto Rico for the second time, but ICANN hopes that won’t be the case.
The non-profit released a statement this weekend saying that it still hopes to hold ICANN61 in San Juan, Puerto Rico March 10-15, 2018:
“Our sincere hope is that by that time, recovery on the island will have advanced to the point where our meeting can proceed as scheduled. It is one way that we can all show meaningful economic support for this storm-battered U.S. territory.”
If it does have to move the meeting, it will be the second time the meeting has shifted. The meeting was supposed to be held in Puerto Rico in the fall of 2016 but was moved due to concerns about the Zika virus.
