What is a WordPress Developer?
In case you aren’t sure, here is a brief look at some of the things a professional WordPress developer can do:
- Understand the inner workings of WordPress – HTML, PHP, CSS, JS, and possibly even MySQL
- Custom design any type of website a client wants in terms of visual appeal and functionality
- Develop WordPress themes and plugins from scratch
- Enforce site security, backups, and regular updates
- Any type of programming, code writing, product building, code maintaining, or bug fixing
In general, the term “WordPress developer” is an ambiguous one and changes depending on whom you ask. That’s why it is important to know exactly what you want when choosing the perfect one to work on your website.
1. Use a Service-Based Company
Anyone who has used a WordPress developer in the past can probably attest to the fact that needing development services just once is a rarity. In fact, for those that do not want to build their own website from the ground up, or manage any future changes, whether aesthetic or issue-related, will need a good developer from time to time as your website grows.
Check out some of the most reliable WordPress service-based companies offering developer-level help to their customers, among many other things:
- WP Curve. Receive 24/7 access to some of the best WordPress developers and let them finish small jobs such as hack prevention, site branding, conversion boosting, and website speed.
- WP Site Care. Rely on their professional WordPress team for site backups, increased security measures, site speed, and more traffic.
- Maintainn. The team of experts here help with offsite backups, custom development, data migrations, and site updates.
2. Envato Studio
You might be familiar with the Envato company as it relates to its marketplaces, ThemeForest and CodeCanyon. But what many don’t realize is that Envato Studio provides a great platform for finding the perfect WordPress developer for your next big project.
Envato Studio pre-screens all developers that offer services, ensuring that you have access to only the best available. They also offer a large number of categories making your search efforts much simpler.
Simply choose the category you need help with (e.g. installation, plugins, or security) and find a developer that meets your needs. In fact, you can even view recommendation percentages, pricing, and more by clicking on individual developer profiles.
3. WordPress Jobs
If you want to find a reputable WordPress expert, it makes sense to check the WordPress job board that is powered by WordPress itself. Here you can post your own request for help. Include your expected budget, a description of the work you are looking for, and ways to contact you if someone is interested in working with you.
This type of resource is very helpful since experienced WordPress developers will frequent such a high authority website regularly. This means you will have your pick if developers to choose from, since chances are you will have many bidders.
4. WPhired
WPhired is another job board resource dedicated to making WordPress developers available to those in need. Simply sign up for a free 90 day job listing, fill out the form detailing what you are looking for, and post the job for all to see.
Get help with WordPress migration, performance, plugin development, programming, theme development, SEO, or even content writing. In the end, WPhired is making things easier on everyone – both website owners and WordPress developers.
Altogether, finding the right WordPress developer for your next big project can seem overwhelming. Especially if you are not sure where to look. Luckily, there are some really great options, so long as you take the time to look in the right places.

All the email spammers are using wordpress to make a you a quick “minisite” that you can do your self in no time
Lindsay Liedke says
Hi Dn Ebook,
I am sorry for my confusion, but are you trying to state here that using WordPress is a bad thing because of email spammers?
If that’s the case, just know that the WordPress core is highly secure (though not impenetrable of course). However, there are excellent ways of arming yourself against email spammers if you use a WordPress website, as well as great ways to tell if hackers have invaded your site…be on the lookout for an upcoming post about just that!
And, if I am totally off base, please clarify what you mean because I am not familiar with email spammers using WordPress users as minisites. Thanks!

Hi Ralf,
You are so welcome!

I think you have missed out the most important platform “Upwork” where you can get millions of WordPress developers and interview with some awesome developers around the world.
In my opinion WordPress is the best platform to get any developer for any technology. I myself working on it for the last 8 when it was not a single entity merging Elance and Odesk.
Thanks,

Hi Ocode,
Thank you so much for the suggestion! I am vaguely familiar with Upwork (though as a freelance writer I have been cautioned throughout the years to avoid them).
That said, I have no personal experience with Upwork, and thus no room to make a blanket opinion about their services. If anything, your suggestion just gives those looking for a WordPress developer one more place to find the perfect match. That I cannot complain about!
