The Washington Wizards and Washington Capitals will soon play at the Capital One Center.
Verizon’s naming rights expire ends next year, and Capital One just registered a bunch of domain names that suggest it will be taking over naming rights when that happens.
[Update: it was officially announced on 8/9/17]
A full list of the domain names is below, but note the DC related domains such as Capital1ArenaDC.com and Capital1CenterDC.com.
I’ve scooped other stadium namings before based on domain names. So don’t be surprised when the official announcement comes.

In the 1990’s it was the MCI Center. I was about 28 when Verizon came along and was very accustomed to calling Washington DC’s telephone service C&P Telephone (Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Company), which was the name since 1883.
Right around 2000, all the C&P trucks disappeared off the streets and were replaced with Verizon trucks.
Now that all Metro Buses in DC have converted to compressed natural gas the air quality in DC is much cleaner. It used to be very common to see a Metro Bus turn a corner in NW and pump thick clouds of diesel smoke all over crowds of pedestrians waiting to cross the street.
They were at least wise to register the domain names prior to the naming rights press release, rather than subsequently attempting to recover opportunistic bad faith registrations through a UDRP. http://www.adrforum.com/domaindecisions/1391120.htm, http://www.adrforum.com/domaindecisions/1512271.htm
Who cares? It sure won’t make me use capitol one card or any of their services. I remember going to the Cap center & D C Stadium. I never went to U S Airways center or RFK Stadium. Stop with the stupid naming rights it is just a waste of ad $.
To the teams that will call the facility home. Just win baby!
