Company makes move into Japan with strategic investment.
Domain name registrar Hexonet GmbH has acquired a “significant and strategic stake” in PSI-Japan, the two companies announced today.
The move allows Hexonet to get a foothold in the Japanese market dominated by GMO.
Japan is an interesting market for domain names. Much of web navigation is based on search. Advertising calls-to-action will often tell people to search for a company name rather than go to a domain name. (Learn more about this in DNW Podcast #102.)
“The Japanese domain name market has a lot of potential and it is ripe for an innovative player to make an impact,” said Robert Birkner, HEXONET’s Chief Strategy Officer.
