Company anticipates rapid growth in .VIP namespace; targets fall for .Boston launch.
MMX (a.k.a. Minds + Machines) released a business update today and said it is targeting one million .vip registrations by the end of 2017.
The .vip namespace currently has over 586,000 registrations, primarily in China. The company is targeting additional distribution in Asia and has inked a deal with Japans’ GMO to push the .vip extension.
eName is currently running an auction that has generated approximately USD $160,000 in .vip sales within the first five days.
On the geo domain front, MMX said it plans to launch .Boston in September. It has also signed a deal with a distribution partner that it believes “should lead to a material increase of registrations in two of the Company’s geographic gTLDs over the next twelve months.”
Less than 250k registrations in Q1 of 2018. Mark my words.
This one is valuable because “VIP” has strong meaning in China. I watched the video all about that.
@ Richard
If there’s only one gTLD to invest in it’s DEFINITELY dot-VIP.
I was the biggest naysayer of the entire program from the start, but this extension is special — provided that the noun/verb/adjective directly relates to something that matches the whole ‘VIP’ aura.
As John said, if you haven’t already watched the video on the meaning of VIP in China, you’re not getting the full picture:

Also, even though the extension is only 10 months old (!), it’s already had some pretty impressive results in the secondary market — and that happening despite the fact that, as of today, there is very little usage dot-VIP on the web:

BTW, if bears noting that 29.VIP sold for ~ $36K, yet 29.NET sold for $11,500 in 2011.
“bear” – yes, indeed, Gene. ๐
Also i.VIP for $100,667:

(Assuming that one completed.)
p.s. And thanks for that vid link, Gene. I didn’t have it handy anymore. ๐
