SelfieStick.com, Handango.com and other notable sales at NameJet in January.
Excluding domain names sold in the ROTD/NameJet auction last month, NameJet reported 128 sales of $2,000 or more. This totaled nearly $800,000 in domain sales.
This was led by the three letter domain TRM.com for $44,000. But as I do every month in this column, I’m going to pull out ten domain names that I think are notable. That doesn’t necessarily mean they were the most expensive…
Comments.com $22,100 – Lots of uses including a consumer feedback site, website comment tools and more.
SelfieStick.com $15,000 – This is notable because SelfieSticks.com (plural) sold for $29,100 exactly two years ago. It’s also notable because the domain was registered in 2013. This goes to show that jumping on a trend or new product can still pay off.
Handango.com $10,000 – Wow, this one brings back memories. I knew the guy who launched this mobile app store, one of the first of its kind, back in the late 1990s.
Keying.com $7,900 – “It’s like Uber, except for getting people to key an enemy’s car.”
ITHelp.com $6,506 – A very common (and valuable) term.
Colored.com $5,801 – Remember Color, the photo-sharing app that raised a ton of money and spent $350,000 to acquire Color.com? That didn’t work out so well, but this sale prompted me to check out the domain name. It’s now in use by a DNA testing company.
LaptopShop.com $4,400 – This one has a nice rhyme to it.
Mentioned.com $2,850 – Past tense domain names usually aren’t great, but this one has potential as a reputation monitoring or social marketing site. Note that Huddled.com recently sold for $2,000 on Sedo.
Money.loans $2,499 – As opposed to the non-money type of loans?
ForExample.com $2,222 – For example, ForExample.com is a type of domain that would sell for $2,222.
