Fee will apply to any purchase/funding not made by wire transfer.
NameJet will soon start adding a 2.5% surcharge to purchases and deposits made with payment methods other than wire transfer.
The fee kicks in December 14. It will apply to credit card payments, as well as the new payment options of PayPal and Alipay.
On the plus side, you will be able to make purchases of up to $5,000 with these online payment methods. The previous limit was $2,500.
NameJet sister company eNom already charges fees for payments made with credit cards.
NameJet also announced that it is teaming up with Right Of The Dot for the auction taking place during NamesCon in January.

And to add insult to injury, they opened the email with “exciting news!”
This SUCKS.
I’ll take my backordering business to Dropcatch where i don’t have to pay a fee and they are catching more names than NJ anyway.
Andreas says
What about snapnames? Same Company ?
Andrew Allemann says
Not the same company. They are partnered for dropping domains. Web.com owns all of snap and half of namejet.
Oren Arbit says
Actually this does open an interesting question – werent they sharing auctions before? So if i backorder there, in theory i could win the same name and not pay the fee?
Andrew Allemann says
They are sharing fully expired drop catching. So you may as well place those orders at snap. Feel free to click through the banner at the top of this site

This is super lame Name Jet. How is this good news ?
Francois says
It’s great news for all non-US clients (including me) who were waiting for a decade the support of Paypal.
BTW this 2.5 % are there to cover money processors fees.
So it’s not extra money Namejet will earn (at the inverse the rate looks low compared to what domain actors are charging when you use Paypal, example Sedo.com).
So I confirm it’s good news and if you think the inverse I warmly recommend you to educate yourself checking how much money processors charge for their use.
Andrew Allemann says
Francois, the reason people are upset is that they previously were able to pay with a credit card and NameJet ate the fees (like most online businesses), and now they’re charging 2.5%.
Francois says
Probably to cover high risks as apparently they also double the maximum one can pay with credit card. The fraud is not insignificant.
Walter says
Not exactly good news especially for old customers who are accustomed to not being charged the 2.5%
