$725,000 domain name looks mighty nice in TV commercial.
I was at the gym the other day when a commercial caught my eye:
Yep, that’s Rate.com. I have to admit that it looks good on a TV screen.
GuaranteedRate bought the domain name for $725,000 from the Castellos this summer in a deal brokered by Kate Buckley. It’s a much better domain name than GuaranteedRate.com since people have a hard time spelling guarantee.
You can listen to Kate’s inside story about selling the domain name in DNW Podcast #87.
It does look great on TV.
And this is a useful side note:

Yeah mch better. Guarantee sometimes misspelled guaranty.
Or gau instead of gua
Nice sale! It’s always a great feeling to see an asset you once owned on the big screen and developed out. 🙂
Beautiful name at a great price. Congrats to the seller, the buyer and broker!
I’ll make this statement again. To those that have generic .com names; Move most of them out of your inventory and into mainstream. Direct navigation is under attack and the more we have these names in the public eye, the better for us. These names are the best advertisement for our industry when they are in use for the public to see.
Otherwise spend the time and money to make your name a viable company that is worthy of that name.
That is the reason I sold Rate.com and Traveler.com after 22 years.
There is so much inventory sitting on the sidelines that could put to use for a lot of good reasons. Like taking a vacation.
Just my two cents. 🙂
its to bad the $725,000.00 sits next to a horrible phone number when they should have something like 1-800-800-RATE.
