Remember HotBot.com? Someone wants to breathe new life into it.
Lycos has sold the domain name HotBot.com, which has a long and storied history.
HotBot has gone through a number of iterations but started as a meta search engine that would query search (and directory) results from multiple search engines and directories. It was relaunched in 2011 as a portal and metasearch engine pulling results from Yahoo, MSN and IlGo.com.
The new owner is holding the domain at GoDaddy and is using a whois privacy service. The nameservers still point to Lycos.
Although we don’t yet know who bought the domain name, at this price we can assume they have plans for it. HotBot 8.0, coming soon.
The sale was brokered by Sedo.
Wow. I can remember doing SEO for HotBot, it was so easy to do well in it. The problem was, there was so many search engines then, it was a waste of time. Looking back now, AltaVista was really the one that got away. I bought ChatCentral.com this Summer, I think it might of been from Lycos.
I used it all the time. it was the only search engine that actually found what i was looking for.
Hope it’ll one day return to full glory!
