Domain Name Wire’s monthly .Com Winners & Losers based on the latest official data.
ICANN has published the latest .com transactions report from registry Verisign, showing official results from May.
Here are the top 5 registrars in May in terms of new .com registrations:
1. GoDaddy* 872,473
2. Rightside** 209,994
3. HiChina 174,424
4. Tucows 114,464
5. PublicDomainRegistry 95,198
Here are the top five registrars for net inbound transfers:
1. Mesh Digital +13,980
2. Uniregistry +12,360
3. EIMS.cn +10,315
4. Google +9,049
5. NameSilo +5,747
EIMS.cn is a new entrant. It appears to be focused on IOT. I left MAFF Inc of the list because it seems to be a private registrar. [Update: MAFF is operating as XZ.com. It was +7,363 on transfers.]
On the flip side, these five registrars saw the biggest net outflow of .com domain names due to transfers:
1. Web.com*** -20,131
2. Tucows -18,713
3. Fabulous -7,976
4. 1&1 -5,234
5. Moniker -4,887
*Includes GoDaddy and Wild West Domains **Includes eNom and Name.com, but not dropcatching registrars. ***Includes Network Solutions and Register.com

🙂 Am not surprised.

What’s MAFF, Inc about? It is not a private registrar, it is running operation under http://www.xz.com, which is one of the brands under DotMedia.

Thanks William, I have updated the story to reflect this.

I can’t say I’m very surprised either at the stats. Godaddy, hands down had led the pack when it comes .com registrations for years. It’s nice to see Uniregistry moving up the chain for .Net inbound transfers. And the outbound .com transfer list, well, again no surprise there. 😉

Crazy that people trust Google, the company with the world’s worst customer service with their domain names.
