Barb Rechterman heads back to the marketing c-suite.
Phil Bienert has resigned as Chief Marketing Office at GoDaddy after a little over a year in the role.
Barb Rechterman, who moved from the CMO job to Chief Customer Office to make way for Bienert, is now back in the CMO role.
Rechterman has been with GoDaddy since it was founded in 1997 and is often credited with being a driving force behind the edgy (and controversial) marketing that put GoDaddy on the map.
Bienert had been EVP of Digital Commerce at GoDaddy since 2013 before taking the CMO role last year.
Update: here’s a statement from Godaddy.
GoDaddy is making a few tweaks to our organization to further align and accelerate growth in our marketing channels and reflect the increasingly global nature of our business. James Carroll will lead a new Global Platform Development group, responsible for extending the power of our global personalization and ecommerce platforms. Andrew Low Ah Kee will lead International Operations, focused on our continued growth outside the U.S. Finally, we are merging the Chief Marketing and Chief Customer Officer roles under the leadership of Barb Rechterman, to better align the work we do to both acquire and retain customers. Phil Bienert will transition out of his role, and we thank Phil for his tremendous contributions over the last three years.
For this … your blog needs a LIKE button. Barb brings the A game and has been a part of building the momentum of GoDaddy. This is great news!
Barb is a control freak. She may have moved over to a “new” role but that was only on paper. I know she’s had a hand in the marketing cookie jar ever since. There’s been no external movement on the CCO role since she’s moved into it. Just another sign that GoDaddy cares more about its marketing then it does for its customers.
You are literally just making things up. Weird. Barb completely handed the reins to Phil. He had control. If and when she was involved in marketing after that, it was because the bosses asked her to clean up messes made by the CMO.
The people who work here like and respect Barb. (Possible exceptions: Phil’s crew of lackeys.) She’ll make sure GoDaddy marketing starts to actually work again. That’s good news for everyone.
*resigned*. Right.
Resigned – is that the new word Trump uses in lieu of ‘you’re fired!’?
