.VIP and .Game hit registrars this week.
It’s been a while since I’ve done a post about new top level domains coming out. That’s because new releases have slowed down to a trickle.
But two new domains become available this week: .VIP enters general availability and .Game hits Early Access tomorrow.
.VIP is notable because MMX (Minds + Machines), which has a new CEO, is taking a more domainer-friendly approach to this launch compared to prior ones.
While some .VIP domains have premiums; all domains renew at standard prices. This is much better for domain investors than premium domains that renew at premium prices each year.
Also, a number of domain names I checked that are premiums have relatively low prices.
Regular pricing is all over the board for this domain. According to a Hexonet newsletter, MMX reduced general availability pricing for the domain, but it appears that not all registrars have lowered their pricing. Hexonet has a first-year price of $5.90 and GoDaddy is $9.99. Some other registrars are charging $35-$40 per year.
.Game is a new TLD from Uniregistry. It enters a seven-day EAP tomorrow. Don’t confuse this domain with .games, which Rightside recently acquired rights to.
