Tribune acquires valuable domain name, plans to offer customized email addresses.
Tribune Publishing Company (NYSE:TPUB), publisher of the L.A. Times, has acquired the valuable domain name LA.com.
The company has already created a landing page for the site, which invites visitors to enter their email address to be alerted when the site launches.
You might start seeing @la.com email addresses in use soon. Visitors can provide their mobile phone number for a chance to win a personalized @la.com email address.
The domain name was acquired from MediaNews Group, part of Digital First Media. The company primarily operates newspapers.
I imagine this was a solid seven-figure sale.

NewYork.com and LosAngeles.com are probably 8-figure names. I don’t see how LA.com or NY.com or any less. Maybe that’s just me.
