I’ve lost my original domain name, someone has bought it and is attempting to sell it. My options are, either purchase it at the ridiculous price they are asking for it, or register another TLD, I have all my source code, and marketing material. What would you suggest? I’m assuming I’m gonna lose all backlinks and partnerships I’ve created since 2001, no 301 redirects, and have to start all over and rebrand. Any advice? Do I have any other options besides legal? Which is also a lost cause, considering, I’m the one responsible and dropped the ball on renewal with an entirely very old email address..
I know this response is pretty late, and you’ve probably already taken action on this, but you’re not faced with a whole lot of options. You could try to summarize the monetary value that domain holds to you and think of it vs re-cooping that through new marketing efforts. If purchasing the domain is the cheaper route, I’d bite the bullet and go for it. If not, and you start over with a new domain, contacting a good digital marketing consultant would be ideal for laying down the foundation of the new plan.
