Verizon.porn, for all of your telecom porn needs.
Verizon has won a cybersquatting dispute with the registrant of Verizon.porn, the first such dispute to be resolved since the .Porn domain name became available in June.
A New York real estate agent registered the domain name on June 4, the day both .Porn and .Adult were offered for sale by registrars. Verizon apparently did not take advantage of being able to register domain names matching its trademark before the domains became available to the general public. About 4,000 domains in each extension were registered during the trademark sunrise period.
Verizon is the only company so far to file a cybersquatting complaint against a .porn or .adult domain name since they’ve launched, suggesting either brands already registered their domains or there’s not a whole lot of cybersquatting going on with the two domains.
High registrations costs — about $100 per year depending on the registrar — are likely cutting down on cybersquatting.
There are about 12,500 .porn and 9,000 .adult domain names in the zone file, which likely under counts the total number of registrations. The two domain name extensions are run by ICM Registry, which also operates the .XXX domain name.
I really don’t like Verizon or their attorneys who represent their UDRP/Typosquatting cases – because they are abusive and are bully personalities when they don’t want to understand matters clearly, they need to keep their ego stroked and so they have to always try to be right with a little snorting of something too, not fresh air.
