Company doesn’t expect to acquire other domain name registrars any time soon.
Last Friday, domain name registrar 101Domain disclosed that it had been acquired by domain name registry Afilias.
It’s Afilias’ first acquisition of a domain name registrar. An Afilias spokesperson told Domain Name Wire that the company does not plan to acquire any other registrars in the near future, so don’t expect a big roll up from the company.
Although it is the company’s first acquisition, Afilias already owns a registrar called iDomains.
One reason Afilias acquired 101Domain is because it provides distribution for Afilias’ restricted TLDS that are hard to place with registrars, such as .Organic, the spokesperson said.
The company expects 101Domain to continue operating like it is today.
