Here come the defensive domain name registrations…
This week I wrote about how Volkswagen registered a number of domain names related to its diesel emissions scandal. The domains, such as VWdieselinfo.com, were likely registered to disseminate information about recalls.
While those domain names weren’t defensive, the company is now going on the defensive with a handful of domain name registrations.
Here are some domain names the company registered yesterday:
VWBlows.com
VWDieselBlows.com
VWDieselreall.com (a typo of recall?)
VWDieselSucks.com
VWTDIblows.com (TDI is the name of its diesel system)
VWTDIsucks.com
The domain names are quite accurate — VW diesels certainly blow a lot of emissions.
what this shows is brands care about negative domain regs and negative publicity. All brands should be this domain savvy.
vwtdi.sucks still available
So is VWcon.com, VWexposed.com, VWgripe.com, VWshit.com and VWisShit.com
And this is without thinking too hard, going outside of .com just makes it even easier to bypass the defensive registrations
i am cheatability.com owner.
My site is under construction yet but we’ll invite several ‘cheated’ VW customers to gather and… Big Bucks coming. I’ll accept honorable partner , now!
“Cheatability” is one’s guy tendency to cheat.
I think they should register VWDiesel.sucks, if it is available.
This would an interesting case for the low-priced “freedom of speech” .sucks domains bundled with a comment platform, but they do not seem to be available yet.
Maybe VW would not have to do this if they did not suck so much. Let’s hope google searches will expose all VW sucks stories.
