Domain name parking consolidation continues as Team Internet nabs NameDrive.
ParkingCrew has acquired the NameDrive domain name parking business from KeyDrive. The acquisition includes the Overdrive service as well.
Starting tomorrow, NameDrive customers will access their parking accounts through ParkingCrew. There is a account claim procedure in place; NameDrive customers should have received an announcement about it today.
Last year KeyDrive divested SnapNames, which it acquired from Oversee.net along with domain name registrar Moniker in 2011.
KeyDrive’s acquisition of NameDrive might have been ill-timed as parking revenues continued to face headwinds. One of the sellers of NameDrive later sued KeyDrive in a payments dispute.
Last year parking company Rook Media acquired parking heavyweight DomainSponsor.
its was a fun ride while it lasted nick overdrive co-dev 2008-2012
Hi Nick, It lasted quite awhile. Are you still in San Diego? Mary Jo … met you at a convention at the Caterman Resort, when you first arrived. Remember…. ?
Parking Crew is one of the very few parking services we recommend at Domaining.com
Good move and congrats!
Apparently ND account holders without PC accounts were migrated nicely, with matching folders in their new account.
ND account holders already with PC accounts simply had all their domains consolidated into a “namedrive migration” folder. I have over 3000 domains that used to be in about 30 folders in the ND account all plonked into one folder at Parking Crew. That’s spells “total cock-up” in my book.
Plus they haven’t migrated stats history. They’ve left the old stats up on previous.namedrive.com but that’s only there until the end of August, when it gets switched off. Beats me why they can’t just leave it up for a year or so. What’s the hurry?
Doesn’t really matter because I can’t seem to log into it anyway.
They score 0/10 for this migration, as far as I’m concerned. Clearly no one sat down and thought it through first. If they did, they certainly weren’t thinking straight.
Hello Drewbert,
We tried to make the migration process as hassle free as possible for both new and existing customers. Importing all namedrive folders to existing ParkingCrew customers turned out to be a bigger challenge. As a domain can only be listed in one folder at any given time, exporting Namedrive folders to existing ParkingCrew accounts could have caused even more confusion. We therefore decided to to create a special migration folder where existing customers would be able to see newly added/migrated domains that were not previously listed with ParkingCrew.
We understand that managing 3000 domains in one folder is not very efficient so our team decided to manually import all your missing folders from NameDrive and moved all domains accordingly.
Keeping the old interface live for longer than the end of August would, from a technological perspective, mean much more efforts for us to maintain two systems at the same time. Also please keep in mind that running the old interface means higher server/hosting costs which we wish to avoid so we can keep our overheads as low as possible.
According to our team you have since been able to log into the interface. If you encounter any problems please don’t hesitate to reach out to support (at) parkingcrew.com. We’re always happy to investigate such problems.
