Domain name conference heads to China in a few months.
I’ve been a bit confused by NamesCon’s strategy with DOMAINfest after acquiring the brand. The one day add-ons to existing domain name conferences haven’t made much sense to me.
But now DOMAINfest is hosting a complete conference, this time in Macau, China.
DOMAINfest.Asia is being staged by the NamesCon, Simon Cousins’ Allegravita and .Asia. Allegravita has been staging events in Macau for over ten years, and Cousins tells me he hopes to bring together the Chinese domain name market with the rest of the world.
DOMAINfest.Asia will take place September 4-7, 2015. Details (including venue) are forthcoming.
Hi Andrew –
Thanks for the DOMAINfest mention.
Richard Lau and I are very dedicated and passionate about the domain name industry and all of the opportunity and innovation that are present.
NamesCon is the ‘mothership’ conference which will always be in Las Vegas in January around the time of Affiliate Summit West and CES. We see it as being over a thousand people and growing – the largest commercial conference (outside of ICANN meetings which are free to attend) focused on Domain Names and our industry.
DOMAINfest – this is a long standing series of events that has over a decade of rich history, that Richard and I actually helped create and build, so we saw an opportunity for this to thrive and flourish as event series – but with a slight pivot in purpose and approach.
You’re less likely to see DOMAINfest Global events – that’s NamesCon’s space to fill. But you will see DOMAINfest heading back to its roots + being a roaming brand.
We are experimenting with a variety of models of events and pairing them with other shows. The objective is to have a portable brand that can be leveraged as a platform to gather and talk domains – with the overall objective of attracting people to participate at the NamesCon in January.
The Macau event and the collaboration with THE Domain Conference are ways we can continue to grow and fortify our industry, and you will see where we are also having DOMAINfest cocktail events, dinners, and open house events at registries and registrars happening as well.

Hi Jothan. What language will most of the events and talks be in?
@Dayne – We’re exploring translation capabilities so that Mandarin, Cantonese and English are all supported there. This will be sponsor supported so it is a matter of the sponsors helping meet the cost recovery on translation.
The sessions will be primarily in English. SOME of the sessions that are meant for many of the Mainland participants may be in Mandarin with English translation available.
Hope that helps
