First batch of domains is now available for registration.
Donuts has begun releasing domain names that were originally held back due to name collision concerns.
The first set of domain names, all related to photography, became available yesterday. They are currently running through Early Access, which means they are going through a sort of Dutch auction for seven days. Next Wednesday the domains will become available at regular prices. (About 2% of domains have premium prices attached to them.)
Domains in the first batch include .photography, .camera, .photos, .gallery, .graphics, .media, .pictures, .productions and .digital.
You can see which domains are being released by finding the top level domain on this list and then clicking on the name collision list.
By definition, these domain names all received at least one visitor (human or computer) during a snapshot in time. That doesn’t mean you are guaranteed of traffic, however. I’ve registered names previously on collision lists in other TLDs and the traffic has been nominal or non-existent.
Still, some great names were held back due to collisions and are now becoming available.
I checked a couple registrars this morning to see how you can purchase these domains. If you search for one of the newly-available domains on GoDaddy, it presents a page very similar to what the company used during the initial release of these domain names. You can either pre-order the domains or purchase them immediately in Early Access.
In September, Donuts will release two character domain names for many of its top level domains, including the majority of LL.tld names. Rightside recently sold the two character domain name 3D.software for at least $100,000.
