Top Direct Auction sale so far is $26,500.
Sedo launched a new feature called Direct Auctions at the end of April, allowing anyone to start an auction for a $59 fee. 150 orders for Direct Auctions were placed on the first day.
So, how is it going? Sedo has released a few highlighted auction results that were started with the Direct Auctions option:
8255.com $26,500 USD
mexico.tv $9,000 USD
blumenversand.com (flower delivery) €4,200
p-k.com $3,900 USD
434.net €3,452
These are good results. Of course, the key question, and the question that will determine the success of the Direct Auctions feature, is what the sell-through rates look like. Sedo hasn’t released this data.
I suspect early sell-through rates were quite low. As I explained when the service debuted, I think sales success will be self-correcting. People will learn which types of domain names are liquid and can be sold through the service, and will eventually let the $59 fee guide their decision on which domains to submit and at what reserves.
Hmm, maybe I will use these Auctions when someone offers me a debatable amount for a domain and then can suggest either they pay more or I will put in auction and let market set fair price.
That’s kind of how Sedo already works…if someone makes an offer at Sedo you can choose to accept it or send the domain name to auction (at no charge).
If only one party is expressing any interest, what’s the point? Isn’t this only for when more than one is interested?
