Registry releases detailed stats on domain name registrations.
Top level domain name registry Minds + Machines released an update on its progress today, including a detailed breakdown of how its top level domain names have fared so far.
The company has 165,364 registrations as of April 20. The majority of these registrations are for domain names in which Minds + Machines isn’t the outright owner. It either provides backend services or has a partnership.
Its wholly-owned domain registration tally is at 46,501 across 13 top level domains (three of which were just released this month):
Although .work outpaces the others in terms of registration volume, the domain name was offered at a wholesale price of about $2. In my book, .beer is Minds + Machines’ biggest success so far.
Obviously, the company will need to grow its niche domains significantly over the coming years.
The company’s highest registration volume so far comes from geographic domain names. It’s unclear how much revenue the company gets from these sales.
You can read more about .London’s usage in this post.
Minds + Machines has also launched one domain through a partnership with Uniregistry: .Country. That domain has 5,322 registrations. Many of these were registered for $1 at Uniregistry.com.
Two domains owned by clients in which Minds + Machines acts as registry have also been launched. .Kiwi has 11,406 registrations and .GOP has 2,940.
Another interesting fact from Minds + Machines: premium name sales represent 3% of total registrations but 25% of revenue.
The net-net is that the company has a lot of strings out there. Now it needs its marketing engine to take off.
