Registrar plunges below 900,000 .com registrations mark.
Verisign’s latest .com monthly report has been published by ICANN, and Moniker’s woes from its platform switch over the summer appear to have finally caught up with it.
Moniker lost 61,191 .com domain names to transfers in October 2014. After its disastrous platform switch in June, it lost at least 17,500 .com domains to transfers each month, peaking at 26,681 in September. The October jump is huge. (ICANN publishes the reports after a three month waiting period.)
The registrar dropped below the million .com registration threshold in September. In October it dropped below 900,000.
Its October numbers were also hurt by few new registrations. Only 3,272 .com domains were registered at Moniker in October, but 19,192 were deleted.
eNom appears to be one of the bigger winners; it gained 70,173 transfers in October and only lost about half that many.
Here are the top five net gainer registrars for October, comparing successful transfers in vs. transfers out:
- eNom +33,935
- Uniregistrar +13,913
- Japan Registry Services +11,655
- Name.com +8,105
- Public Domain Registry +7,879
Godaddy used to be my #1, now I mainly use uniregistry or name. I moved 700 names out of moniker in the past 4 months, and it is dead to me.
I wonder what numbers for moniker will look like in a year, under 500k? i wouldn’t be surprised.
A lot of people are still renewing their domains at Moniker. About 40k .com renewals last month.
Well since moniker offers 2 day support turnaround, and weekends off it is only fitting they continue on a path of self inflicted demise. Once under certain numbers they will have cashflow issues, I wanted my names out in case they became insolvent.
You’re getting 2 day turnaround on support? You’re lucky.
Moniker’s Support has drastically turned around. You guys should give them a call if you have any issues like I did.
They didn’t pick up my phone call just now. About to transfer 50 domains out. I think I’m through.
