An antiquated technology term in .me sells for five figures.
Sedo sold $1 million worth of domain names last week. While this week’s list doesn’t include as many end user buyers as the last one (at least publicly), a lot of smaller businesses bought domain names.
One of the most amusing ones is Telegram.me at $10,000. Now, be honest — if someone told you they registered a domain name with telegram in it, you’d laugh at him. Right? The New Zealand man who sold Telegram.me is laughing all the way to the bank.
Here’s the list of some of last week’s end user sales at the Sedo marketplace:
(You can view previous lists like this here. If you’d like to learn how to sell your domain names like these on Sedo, download this report.)
Telegram.me $10,000 – Telegram, a mobile and desktop messaging system with an emphasis on security.
Bridgingloanfinance.co.uk 700 GBP – Nina Finance LTD, a UK financial company.
BoxJump.com 2,399 GBP – looks be be registered by the owner of BaconFitness.com, a crossfit site. That site as a copyright statement for BoxJump Technologies.
WeCurate.com $5,000 – I have no idea what Three Six Zero Group, which uses the domain name tszgrp.com, does. Perhaps they curate.
TeamEscape.com 3,000 EUR – collaboRATIO GmbH, which operates TeamEscape.de. Looks like a cool real-life game.
Eungabi.com 2,500 EUR – The registrant of eungabi.biz upgraded to a .com.
ThxALot.com $1,550 – It looks like TxsALot.com is a new site, and the owners realized most people abbreviate “thanks” as “thx”.
8ways.com $975 – 8 Ways Media, a Swiss marketing and communications agency, uses 8ways.ch for its web address.
Slim1.com 1,000 EUR – Business consulting firm Slimstock, which uses Slimstock.com, slimmed down its domain name.
NutMedia.com – $1,150 – New Jersey company Nut Media.
SafetyBank.com $3,250 – Construction Safety UK Ltd, a construction risk management firm.
Qtsy.com $2,100 – UK company Qtsy Limited.
Enduracool.com $1,999 – Mission Product Holdings, which sells cooling products for athletes.
PBFY.com $750 – PBFY Flexible Packaging, a California company that uses the domain name PbfyPkg.com.
Valetone.com 1,000 EUR – Valet Parking & More GmbH in Berlin. They own Valet.net.
Rent-a-limo.com $3,115 – The limo rental company that owns RentALimo.com. I can see how people would include hyphens in this domain.
Send.in 1,000 EUR – email marketing firm Sarbacane.
Aniview.com $3,000 – Aniview LTd, a mobile video ad service.
Sending or receiving a message is a personal thing — either from “me” or for “me”. So I like the brand name Telegram.me. It’s also a word that can be used as a transitive verb: “How about you telegram me?”. Some Jeeves in the back of my head is saying, “Telegram for you, sir”.
Telegram.me is better than what it was using Telegram.org. This is one of the hottest messaging apps; it’s competing with Whatsapp — and already has a valuation of over $1Billion. $10 K was a bargain.
Were they using .ORG? Not the right choice for that kind of operation. Much as I like .ORG, it ain’t for everything.
