Donuts hits milestone with a domain name registration that’s almost too fitting to be true.
Earlier this month I wrote about how Donuts was tracking to cross the million domain mark in October.
It hit that milestone yesterday. Fittingly for a registry called Donuts, the milestone registration was Heavenly.coffee.
Even if every domain was priced at just $15 wholesale, that means the company has grossed $15 million this year. Of course, many of its domains are priced at much higher wholesale prices. It also gets revenue from sunrise, its DPML offering for trademark owners, early access premiums, and premium domain registrations. Its revenue could easily be double the $15 million mark.
Donuts has released basically all of its uncontested and early-to-be-resolved top level domain names. On one hand, that means the company won’t get a weekly boost from new launches. On the other, that means its more popular domains are yet to come.
Its registration base will continue to climb through January. Then a big moment-of-truth comes when its first batch of domain names reach their one year anniversary. At that point, it will have to grow enough to cover expirations.
