Customers have registered 960,000 second level domain names under Donuts’ domain names.
The company’s latest newsletter pegs its total registrations at 960,000 across 147 top level domains. That’s an average of about 6,500 per top level domain.
It will need to add 40,000 more domains without the aid of weekly launches. In previous months, the company released three or more domain names each week. In October, it will launch just three domains in total.
Still, small gains on the 147 domains currently available add up in a hurry.
For example, here are the net adds in the zone file yesterday for some of its domains (numbers from DomainIncite Pro):
- .Solutions 86
- .Guru 68
- .Today 68
- .Email 66
- .Center 46
- .Expert 46
- .Photography 44
Most of its domains added fewer, but then you have to multiply by over 100.
Donuts’ numbers are also notable because of relatively high prices for domains and it hasn’t given away free domains like other registries have.
I thought .XYZ already surpassed one billion?
.XYZ … innumerable as grains of sand on the seashore … and as permanent a foundation for builders. Please wipe your feet before tracking them indoors!
Donuts’s accomplishment is much more impressive. Some at least of its domains will eventually undergird sky scrapers.
Since each new gtld is unique because of their pricing..I think it would be a great idea if you made a graph for each new gtld showing How many registrations they need to break even) .6,500 regs.for most new gtlds will take at least a few years to break even, 186k annual 25k….. But for some like the .rich 6,500 regs. will make them truly Rich.. It will be nearly impossible to factor in expenses such as salaries, marketing, etc. So just leave it to our imagination or due diligence.
You’d need to know the wholesale cost for their domain names. Most registries are keeping this info close to their vest.
But you’re point is well taken.
