Registry pumps money into .tickets auction victor.
Domain name registry CentralNic (AIM: CNIC) has invested $1.62 million in Accent Media Ltd, which the latter used to help acquired the .Tickets TLD in a private auction.
Accent Media Ltd beat Donuts, Famous Four Media, Tickets TLD LLC and Shubert Internet in the auction.
CentralNic’s investment will give it a 12% equity stake in Accent Media.
As best I can tell, Accent was set up to get the .tickets TLD, which would mean CentralNic is effectively valuing the .tickets opportunity at $13.5 million.
Accent Media plans to offer a highly restricted .tickets domain space to help stop the sale of fake event tickets. Given its requirements, it will sell very few domain name registrations. Unless it plans to insert itself in the ticket buying process itself (with some sort of transaction fee), I’m scratching my head as to how this closed model will be a money-maker.
it looks like that CentralNic have some big plans for .Tickets TLD.
