Frank Schilling tries to put you in the holiday spirit and Rightside raises its glass.
You know what amazes me? One of the .brand TLDs to “go live” this week, .中信 and .citic, has a better information page than some of the other new TLDs launching.
But readers probably aren’t interested in .brand domain names they won’t be able to register, so here’s a look at other domain names launching this week.
It’s Christmas in July! Your local furniture store isn’t giving discounts, but two of Frank Schilling’s holiday-themed domain names are launching Tuesday: .blackfriday and .christmas.
Expect to pay $30-$50 each.
Donuts started just one EAP last week, .services, so that will enter GA on Wednesday. It starts early access for four domains this Wednesday: .gripe, .exchange, .engineering, .capital.
That first one is sure to attract some attention as a “shakedown” domain.
Rightside sends a domain to general availability on Wednesday as well: .pub. Rightside is trying a more domainer-friendly approach to premiums for .pub, so it might be worth a look.
Joseph Peterson says
As “shakedown” TLDs go, “gripe” is pretty weak.
Its connotations are all wrong. Someone who gripes is sometimes seen as a chronic complainer, and a gripe is generally something petty or minor. Spilt milk. Mild reservations. Caviling. Quibbles.
Someone sufficiently motivated by a bad experience to create a complaint website won’t want to .GRIPE. Why would they want to be perceived as petty or insignificant?
Either they’ll want to bring the sky crashing down with .SUCKS or .EXPOSED, or they’ll want to appear more objective with .REVIEWS or a more traditional .COM / .ORG.
To me, .GRIPE seems positioned very awkwardly in between those stances.
