One investor responsible for most initial domain name registrations in .webcam and .trade.
A single domain name investor was responsible for the bulk of domain name registrations of Famous Four Media’s domain names launched yesterday.
.Webcam added 3,655 domain names to reach 3,678. Approximately 3,100 of them were registered at registrar Encirca by a single domain name investor.
.Trade got 3,197 registrations to reach 3,235. I count nearly 2,400 of them registered by this same investor.
The investor is using a whois proxy.
Famous Four’s other launch, .Bid, apparently did not attract the same investor. It added 428 registrations to hit 506.
These are based on overnight zone files, which do not include the entire first day of registrations. The zone files do not include registry reserved premium domain names.
As you might imagine, many of the .webcam registrations are adult in nature. Yesterday, Famous Four announced that it sold a package of 15 adult .webcam domain names for $175,000.
Frank…are you there?
🙂
Very sad. This is not an investor, but a gambler, the addict type.
its clear that because of a lack of marketing on “free demand” the registry are shocked at how little takeup exists for the names, so they need to create a buying group to buy the good names now, for that special time “later” when the demand will magically appear.
so rather than promote the tlds, the solution is buy the good names and hope…
Investor is a big word try noob. Has that written all over it
there seems to be a number of new gtlds that have these mystery investors, who almost always use privacy and without them, the numbers for those peticular gtlds would be very poor.
This strange “investor” using whois privacy is as always… The registry itself while announcing that they have only registered a hundred premium names.
We tried to buy one .webcam domain, but it told us the domain was taken. We checked the whois and it says the domain is not registered, yet it’s for sale over at Sedo. Go figure.
