.XYZ joins the fray this week.
A bunch of new top level domain names hit the market this week, especially on Wednesday.
Monday
It all starts today with the launch of .xyz. Daniel Negari is launching this generic domain and has set aggressive goals: 1 million registrations in the first year and five million in three years.
You might think he’s crazy. Maybe he is. Yet I admire the passion and energy he’s putting in to it, and that’s a good thing for the domain’s future. Much like the team behind .Club, Negari is putting a lot of money behind marketing .xyz. You can’t say that about many of the TLDs hitting the market.
Based on my checks this morning, the registry held back a lot fewer domains than the other true generic to launch thus far (.link).
I checked a few registrars and they are charging $13-$15 for the domain.
Wednesday
A lot of new domains hit the market on Wednesday.
New TLD Company AB launches .Jetzt (“now” in German). It has decent registrar coverage; expect to pay $20-$30 per domain.
Rightside throws three more domains into the ring on Wednesday, including. .Futbol, .Reviews and .Social.
.Futbol will be the first team sport domain name to hit the market, unless you count .bike. .Reviews will be interesting to watch since I imagine a lot of companies will want to protect their brands. .Social is designed for social media, although its use case is less clear to me than the other domains. I suppose companies might aggregate their social media accounts at bizname.social.
Donuts has four domains entering its Early Access Phase and four domains leaving the phase for true general availability.
.Dating, .Events, .Partners and .Productions all hit the market at premium prices this Wednesday. .Condos, .Properties, .Maison (“home” in French) and .Tienda (“shop” in Spanish) revert to regular pricing.
Only .web and .app have a snowball’s chance in hell of hitting 1 million registrations. There’s no meaning to .xyz. It is the last letters in the alphabet, do you want your site/brand/company associated with something that is associated with the ‘last’ of something. I wish there were odds up in Vegas that you could bet against for .xyz hitting 1 million reg’s.
it will get lots of domainer regs because its cheap and they aren’t keeping that much back but its another story if they’ll be renewed or sold…
“There’s no meaning to .xyz.”
Actually, there is. It means your fly is open.

It an acronymn for eXamine Your Zipper!
If I remember correctly from secondary/elementary school
Interesting to ExamineYourZipper.com was registered today.
I didn’t think to look. It’s a pretty good domain in its own right.
