Entertainment company now controls Gauntlet.com domain name.
Warner Bros. has filed a UDRP against the domain name Gauntlet.com, and it appears the domain name registrant handed the domain name over as a result. It’s not clear yet if a payment was involved, but I’ve reached out to the previous domain owner.
Warner Bros. distributed the 1977 film The Gauntlet directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Eastwood and Sondra Locke.
But its interest in the domain name might not have to do with a movie remake.
Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment purchased some of video game publisher Midway’s assets for $49 million in 2009 after Midway filed for bankruptcy. Midway had developed a Gauntlet video game. It registered Gauntlet related domain names after the acquisition.
Only time will tell if the domain name will be used for a movie or video game.
The UDRP was withdrawn and the latest UDRP record shows that the domain name is now controlled by an intellectual property law firm.
Is this based off the UDRP decision? Because it might have been sold in an arrangement of sorts.
Yeah, just too generic to get snatched in a UDRP.(imo) Maybe WB bullied him with a filing…and he got “just go away” money from them? I certainly hope he did.
The case was terminated. Not sure if they paid anything. I reached out to the respondent to see what info I can get.
Archive.org shows that there were game ads running on the parked page. That proves you need to be very aware of what is showing up on your parked domains even if they are generic. Too bad, nice domain lost because of bad management.
Sold for $90,000
Not too shabby. What is the source?
As a general rule, I suggest not listening to unidentified commenters who stop by to say how much a domain sold for 🙂
I heard from the respondent and he said the settlement was confidential.
imo they could have taken it based on the ads that have been shown on it.
They were running gauntlet game ads on the site. That’s the kiss of death for a generic domain.
Uhh, I highly doubt it was just handed over. First off, look at how many trademark filings for the word “gauntlet”, having nothing to do with Warner Bros.:

No comments? Why no one wants to comment on this further?
That’s a rad movie poster.
not making any sense, doesn’t anyone care about the reason why a domain that has several trademarks gets transferred. STUPID!!!!!
They were running gauntlet game ads on the site. Check archive.org. Bad move. kiss of death.
The sales price was indeed $90K, didn’t get handed over. Escriw.com source
Seems like they could have picked it up for the price of a udrp. Instead they paid a heavy $85k+ premium. ouch
Ok, if they paid the $90K, it’s because Schilling, if he’s smart, responded back saying, hey, we’re going to fight this since you guys (WB) isn’t the exclusive holder of all those trademarks with “gauntlet”, AND… given the definition for “GAUNTLET” is “a stout glove with a long loose wrist”, he should’ve used the argument. But some how, they must’ve said, well, we have the TM rights from long time ago, so we will prevail and fight… how about we pay you some money.. bam bam thank you. ok, let’s do it.
Escrow.com Gauntlet.com $90K. too funny..
I thought the damn name is generic.
Put “define gauntlet” in google, I see a definition, but no reference to Warner Brothers… so WTF?
Someone needs to Cross Complaint Google for running those ads… right??? right????
Freak’n letting Google getting away because they are a JUMBO JET.. is that how it works.. DAVID GOLIATH… Jumbo Jet get’s away.. Little Jet pays the price… – hahahahah – you think I’m stupid? I think I’m stupid.
Sounds like eScrew – like WB eScrew Schilling.. – dude.. I don’t know.. can someone tell me if I drank too much coffee this morning..
As I’m looking more into this.. I’ll go ahead and contact Gauntlet.net and Gauntlet.org and let them know that a Gauntlet is going to Gauntlet them with their Gauntlet.
You, without a doubt, had too much coffee this morning. Exactly what is it that you put in your coffee?
I had some coffee and then I crashed asleep. After that, I regained energy and I kept coming back to this site looking for some more feedback.
Seriously, I think media needs to give complete story about what happened. otherwise, this speculation is going to make me doubt their future stories.
They cannot just give a partial story, saying, Warner Brothers gets Gauntlet.com after filing UDRP. That title right there gives the impression that the UDRP ruled in favor of Warner Brothers… but then, as you read further in these comments, someone suggests it was sold for some $90,000 USD, which contradicts the title of this article.
So, if media publishers continue to post these inconsistent articles, in order to wound up and get the reader’s blood boiling on a silly matter where the title shouldn’t actually be validated as “OK”, then they are shooting themselves in their own foot because next time, their future articles are going to get less readers due to all the HYPE, misleading stories that are not fully accurate.
Schilling would not just hand it over… This just doesn’t make sense…
Gauntlet.com is a descriptive domain, is generic, and multiple trademarks exists, and Schilling is going to let them get away with such a GREAT domain.
WTF!!!!!!!
Now I’m questioning Schilling’s negotiation tactics, if he was CyberBullied out of the domain. Why didn’t David Steel represent Schilling, since they are good friends.
Since David Steele is a CyberBully Opportunist himself.. right right!?!?!
Schilling has a history of handing over domains
It wouldn’t be the first time
He is dead set against losing a udrp
He would rather hand over one of umpteen thousand domains than get trapped in a losing udrp
Yes he has defended some true but he has also handed a number of good domains over when the writing was on the wall
There seems to be a huge increase in the number of UDRP’s being filed recently, is this trend going to continue? Has anyone compiled hard stats on number of complaints being filed over the years?
This case has nothing to do with Frank Schilling
Who was the previous owner of Gauntlet.com?
