Bill Sweetman discussed new top level domain names on CTV.
I don’t know much about Canada, other than it’s a cold place where everyone plays hockey.
Even though I don’t know much about it, I know CTV is a pretty big channel. That’s because Wikipedia tells me it is Canada’s largest privately owned network. I also hear Kevin Newman is a pretty well known news anchor up there.
So props to Name Ninja Bill Sweetman for being interviewed in a segment about new top level domain names on yesterday’s Kevin Newman Live. Also props for Newman calling him “Canada’s leading domain name strategist”.
These remote link interviews are tough, but Sweetman did an excellent job.
I can’t embed the video, so you’ll have to watch it on CTV’s site here.
Just fast forward through the first 30 seconds of talk about snow (I told you it’s a cold place!) to get to Bill’s interview.
Sweetman did a great job in the interview. The names seem even more menacing when watched on TV.
Note that some of the names they showed on the screen weren’t actually applied for 🙂
He seemed to not get a downside to gtld’s he side stepped many of those questions, I mean when he put up all those gtld’s, and stated sheer confusion, I got it.
He mentioned .secure which sounds stupid
@Ryan,
.Secure does sound stupid because we already have “https” as a protocol for the dot com, and internet in general.
Great job!
Bill’s a great guy and helped build Tucows into a monster. As for the new .whatwasthatname I think he said it all, “I will be focusing on my clients names, not mine”. Most people will turn to the safety of .com and their local cctld. New .whatwasthatname are just a $$ grab for the registries. Some may stick but probably not many.
