GoDaddy’s Super Bowl commercials are very different this year.
It’s Super Bowl Sunday, and that means the domain name industry will be getting some broad attention this evening.
GoDaddy has been advertising in the Super Bowl since 2005, and will once again run two Super Bowl ads tonight.
In the first half, GoDaddy will run its “Surprise” commercial in which a real person will apparently quit their job in front of the entire Super Bowl audience. According to GoDaddy, only the people who produced the commercial and the woman’s dad know that she’s quitting her job. Not even her boss knows. (I assume it’s not a GoDaddy employee!)
In the second half, GoDaddy will run the “Body Builder” ad embedded below. This commercial apparently promotes GoDaddy’s new “Get Found” service as well as Website Builder. The products make just a small cameo in the Super Bowl commercial filled with male body builders – and Danica Patrick in her 13th Super Bowl commercial.
There are a couple big changes in this year’s ads compared to prior years. First, domain names themselves might not be the pitch here. Instead, GoDaddy is focusing on its complete package for helping small business owners attract business online. Second, women will be positioned as smart business owners rather than used as a half-naked props to entice men to visit GoDaddy.com.
That Incredible Hulk Danica image has been wierding me out for several days on the GoDaddy homepage. Even the Jean-Claude Van Damme picture wasn’t quite that creepy. Unless you’re in the loop about why – which I’m not – it’s just plain odd. If their goal was to NOT promote sexy women this year, sticking her head on Schwarzenegger’s body did the trick.
