Patent discloses system for monitoring and handling domain name abuse.
The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office today published a patent application (pdf) for Architelos‘ NameSentry domain abuse protection system.
The patent application is officially titled “Managing Domain Name Abuse” and was filed in March 2012.
Architelos’ NameSentry is a system that helps domain registries and registrars detect and mitigate domain name abuse. As described in the patent – and NameSentry marketing materials – it is a sort of dashboard for managing abuse. It pulls in abuse feeds from various providers. Users can create workflows for handling different types of abuse and set up rules to quickly hone in on abuse that must be addressed.
.Pw already uses NameSentry and a number of big new top level domain name operators, including Donuts and Top Level Domain Holdings, have signed on to use the service once their domain names launch.
The patent application does not mention Architelos, but I confirmed with the company that the patent is for its product.
