Analytics company learned its lesson but ended up with the “right” domain name.
A Domain Name Wire reader alerted me to a blog post from web analytics service Clicky that it penned when it changed its domain name back in December. (Yes, it was back in December, but it doesn’t seem that anyone in the domain world picked up on it.)
For six year Clicky went by the name Clicky but its domain name was GetClicky.com. In December it bought the Clicky.com domain name and transitioned to the new web address.
That was a big pain, as the company details in the post. But it also offers a valuable lesson:
If you can afford the right domain name, do yourself a favor and buy it as soon as possible. We paid a pretty freaking penny for clicky.com, but the second it was in our possession was just pure unadulterated joy.
A lot of times startups think the domain name the want is unobtainable because it’s already registered. But it usually is obtainable, and the price is typically affordable…even if it may take a little creativity (e.g. a lease or payment plan).

That quote is like a picture that tells a thousand words. And it rings so true. By the way, your new layout is kinda growing on me.
