Just a couple weeks after buying the domain, the Phoenix Suns’ Beat.la website has received a lot of traffic.
Is Beat.la the most trafficked .la domain name that takes advantage of the “Los Angeles” meaning?
On July 31 I noticed that the Phoenix Suns basketball team bought the beat.la domain name for $5,300 at Sedo. The team is using it promote a rivalry with the L.A. Lakers.
The next week the L.A. Times picked up on the story citing Domain Name Wire. That resulted in a lot of articles about and traffic to Beat.la. The Suns organization told the Phoenix Business Journal that the sited has already received 90,000 pageviews.
That may make beat.la the most popular .la domain name that uses the domain name with the “Los Angeles” connotation. Although .la has tried to market itself as a Los Angeles extension for a decade, GoDaddy recently jumped on board to give it a bigger push.
There are a number of .la domain names in the top sites list on Alexa, but I can’t find any major ones targeted to L.A.
As a life-long Phoenix Suns fan and a .LA registrar, this is awesome!
As a .LA supporter for more than a decade, this is welcome news indeed. I’m currently working with a startup that has expressed an interest in one of my .LA domains selected for donation. I have no doubt that this particular domain and others will achieve similar results. Go .LA!
