Chris LaHatte appointed to second term.
ICANN’s Board of Directors has reappointed Chris LaHatte as Ombudsman to another two year term.
The ombudsman serves as an intermediary between ICANN and its constituents on matters related to things done by ICANN, its board, its staff, and constituent bodies.
Some of LaHatte’s recent decisions have been about late objections to new top level domains and a complaint by DotAfrica Connect.
LaHatte has proven less controversial than previous ombudsman Frank Fowlie, who received some unwelcome attention for alleged activities outside of ICANN.
So far, the most controversial thing I’ve heard about LaHatte was wading into a matter that ICANN probably shouldn’t get involved with.
ICANN is budgeting to spend $422,000 on the ombudsman office this fiscal year.
