Tucows sells AHN.org for $50,000 to hospital system.
Healthcare provider and insurance company Highmark spent $50,000 for the AHN.org domain name, topping Afternic’s list of reportable sales for last week.
The domain name is the acronym for Allegheny Health Network, which Highmark announced in April as the new name for a Pittsburgh hospital system anchored by West Penn Allegheny.
The health insurer bid $1.1 billion to buy the West Penn Allegheny Health System.
Tucows was the seller. The company offered personalized email address at the domain name.
The .com version AHN.com is owned by Discovery Communications, the company behind the Discovery TV channel, TLC, and Animal Planet. The domain is not in use.
Update 7/17/13: a reader said he just saw a billboard in Pittsburgh with the AHN.org domain on it.
Insurance Domain Names says

Andrew Allemann says
It’s not really a healthcare or insurance domain, but it shows that this type of buyer is willing to pay for the ideal domain.
