He’s owned it since 2010, but someone else quickly snapped up PopeFrancisI.com today.
Last month I suggested several possible names for the next pope and listed who owned the corresponding domain names.
One I didn’t have on the list was Pope Francis.
But that’s the name of the new pope just elected to lead the Roman Catholic Church.
So who owns the domain name?
Christopher Connors, a Chicago man, registered the domain name in 2010. It currently points to a GoDaddy.com parking page.
As for PopeFrancisI.com, the quick-on-the-keyboard award goes to Chris Dunaway in Tennessee. He registered the domain name earlier today. The .net, .org, .info, and so on were also registered today.
It’s likely we’ll see many variations of Pope Francis registered as domain names today.

Someone had an inside tip. PopeFrank.com has been registered since 2006. PapaFrancisco was snagged right away today. But FrankThePope.com is still available to register though!

Connors picked the wrong guy and still one the lottery. The archbishop of Chicago is Francis George and I am sure this is why Connors, who is a chicago resident, registered the name PopeFrancis. com. Check out the link below and you will see his name listed at number 40 of the 117 possible candidates and ironically its directly underneath Jorge Bergoglio who actually became the pope.

I use to own FrancisI.com.
I let it expire a few years back. Nothing to do with the pope I used to develop historical websites. There once was a french king, Francis I of France.
