Woman accused of taking control of domain names she registered on behalf of former employer.
A Steamboat Springs woman has been arrested for theft after allegedly taking control of her former employer’s domain names.
The news was first reported in Steamboat Today.
Donna “Tonie” Roberts was given a company credit card and was asked to register domains for Ghost Ranch Restaurant when she was employed there.
After she left, she allegedly called Go Daddy to “shut down” the domain names. She was able to do this because she was listed as the contact on whois and the account.
Court records show the domains Roberts registered on behalf of the company were:
GhostRanch.co
GhostRanchRestaurant.com/.info
SteamboatGhostRanch.com/.info
Ghost-Ranch.com/.net/.info
GhostRanchSteamboat.com/.info
There are a number of lessons in this. If you’re a small business owner, it’s imperative that you register the company’s domains with only you listed as the contact.
Good advice.
This is not the first time this has happened…
Shame on her.
