RegistrarOwl makes it easy to compare domain name registrars.
Domain name registrar NameSilo has just launched a new web site that tracks domain registrar and top level domain data.
RegistrarOwl.com tracks domain name stats related to each registrar, such as total domains, transfers, etc. It uses publicly available registry reports from ICANN’s web site as its data source. This is good because the data is accurate but unfortunately it’s three months in arrears.
(Oddly, RegistrarOwl it is currently reporting bad data for the size of each TLD; it shows 212 million .com domains and 30 million .net. That’s about double the actual number.)
The site also offers a price comparison tool to compare domain registrars.
NameSilo ranks #1 on its list, but to be fair, the price comparison links directly to the source pages on registrar sites. So it should be accurate. Yet NameSilo has designed the pricing data to present itself in a favorable light. For example, it includes the cost of whois privacy in its price rankings.
Also, most bulk registrants get favorable pricing from their registrar so the list price might not be applicable.
Fortunately, you can sort individual aspects in its price guide. If all you care about is first year pricing then you can see the rankings by that measure.
The pricing tool is valuable. It would be great if you could see pricing by TLD.
Despite a few kinks to work out, I think RegistrarOwl is worth checking out.
Thanks for the review and feedback. We have fixed the TLD report to show the correct numbers.
Why isn’t Fabulous.com listed at http://www.registrarowl.com/report_registrar_free_whois_privacy.php
@Acro – Thanks for bringing this to our attention. It appears our researchers has missed that Fabulous offers free WHOIS privacy. We have just made the update and Fabulous now appears on that report.
Michael, that’s awesome, thanks for the update.
