Right of the Dot founder discusses his company’s latest brokerage deal and more.
A couple weeks ago Right of the Dot, a company formed by Monte Cahn and Michael Berkens, announced that it was the broker for Televisions.com and related domains.
I reached out to Cahn to understand the latest on why Right of the Dot is selling left of the dot, how much the domains might sell for, and more.
DNW: I understood what sale.com had to do with “right of the dot” since companies are applying for the .sale top level domain name. No one has applied for .televisions, so what’s the connection here? Is the company getting into second level domain brokering?
Cahn: Over the past 17 years I have been involved in many of the industry’s largest domain transactions and founded and ran some of the best and well known domain companies in the space. Michael Berkens is also one of the most well respected and well known domainers and bloggers in the space. I think that our reputations, the fact we have been involved in hundreds of millions of dollars in domain sales, founded and work with industry leading companies and pioneered many of the products, services and processes used in the industry today, have resulted in many reaching out to us directly for domain sales and new TLD advisement and services. So we are providing services for this directly and through our partners.
DNW: You also work with and are an investor in Domain Holdings. How do you decide which domains are right for Domain Holdings to broker compared to Right Of The Dot?
Cahn: Right now, I have been spending a lot of time with DomainHoldings Group as a Board Advisor, investor, and Executive in Residence. We have built the brokerage team to 8 people along with a couple of domain lead generation folks who generate outbound leads for the brokerage team. Alan Dunn has also joined the group so we are really tapped into the domain industry and its sales and development needs. If a lead comes into ROTD and it’s a name or website we want to work on, we will take it under contract. DomainHoldings has been helping with the sales process for many of these names, although most names are open for any co-broker to work with us on. The domain opportunities that are not ROTD related, we handle as a team at DomainHoldings.
DNW: How much do you think the television domains are worth? Is there a minimum people will have to hit just to make an offer?
Cahn: The Televisions.com and related ccTLD names are a great package. We are entertaining offers in excess of $850,000. I truly believe the package is worth 7 figures.
DNW: After the sale.com and the televisions.com package, should we expect more Right Of The Dot announcements about brokering domains?
Yes, RightOfTheDot recently secured names like – Addressbook.com, Illinois.com, Girl.com, Vehicles.com, cheat.com, SlotMachine.com, PropertyInsurance.com, WorkersCompInsurance.com and some others.
At DomainHoldings.com we have California.com, Cuba.com, Wifi.com, Algebra.com, Birth.com, Deliver.com, Tuscany.com, Soft.com, DebtReduction.com, Voucher.com all being worked on with many more in the hopper.
