Company wants to trademark GMBH.
TLDDOT GmbH, an applicant for the top level domain .GmbH, has filed an intent-to-use trademark application with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for the mark “GMBH”.
Seriously.
GmbH is basically the equivalent of an LLC (Limited Liability Company) in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and other Central European nations.
The application lists three goods and services:
1. Advertising and commercial information services, via the internet; Providing consumer information in the field of domain names; Providing an on-line directory information service featuring information regarding domain names registries and domain name registrars
2. Domain name search services, namely, conducting online computerized searches for the availability of domain names; Computer services, namely, internet protocol address management; Internet Protocol address verification services
3. Domain name registration services
TLDDOT GmbH is one of six applicants for .GmbH, and it’s the only one claiming community status for its application.
It’s up against some big money competitors, including Google and Donuts.
