Company transfers domains between registrar accreditations.
If you start to see domain name registrar Domain.com growing in registrar ranking reports, there’s a good explanation for that.
Dotster, which owns Domain.com, has transferred the domain names from its Dotster accreditation to the Domain.com one.
I was alerted to this change when I received a DomainTools whois change alert on a friend’s domain name that I helped her register. My first thought was that her domain had been stolen, until I remembered that Dotster owns Domain.com.
I reached out to Dotster to find out what was going on. Brian Unruh, General Manager at Dotster, told Domain Name Wire:
Through acquisitions, Dotster historically has owned many registrar credentials. We consolidated them to deliver a higher quality customer experience and better efficiency. In fact this change is just one of many that we’re making to improve the services we provide our customers. While Dotster.com’s registrations are now using the Domain.com credential, Dotster customers will remain Dotster customers and continue to receive industry leading service and care.

Does this mean that the 60-day non-transfer rule kicks in for the domain owner?
Thank goodness I have only two domains with this registrar.

@ Ms Domainer – I doubt it. They’d take a lot of heat for that.
Louise says
Do different terms apply to Dotster customers?
Andrew Allemann says
Dotster confirmed with me that there’s no 60 day lock

that should explain why dotster have so many problems with their dns registrar tools and clients’ domains not resolving!

Never ever, I will use Dotster for any of there services. I’ve been a customer for over 7 yrs. My site has been down twice in the past yr. the fist time took me 1 week to get it back up and no one could tell me why it was down and now it has been 2 weeks, I called three times to get answers and I’m yet to get help. 1 hr + waite every time I call.
very frustrating and disrespectful of customer’s time

After 92 days of unresolved difficulties that have been reported “Resolved” 27 times I am not sure I can trust anything Domain.com tells me. Their attitude on the telephone has consistently been to attempt to put the cause for your company’s failing on my shoulders with a callus attitude towards the losses I have suffered due to their company’s continuing inability to transition my accounts.
Prior to the transition started I had a profitable and lucrative business. I am trying to put the pieces back together but they continue insisting it will be my responsibility, again, to invest time and resources if their company causes another disruption of service in attempting to fix their broken display of our domain names.
Contacts with me have been consistently and aggressively accusatory with a continuing denial of responsibility which obnoxious
Avoid doing business with these folks if you value your sanity.

Dealing with domain.com has been a nightmare – never again – customer support is pathetic – and they charge way more than much better registrars.
Jorge says
dang!! I just registered 3 -more- domains with dotster, the support sucks, they know nothing, or have orders to know nothing… just elusive answers. I will start to move my domains
Arlene says
DOTSTER IS THE WORST!!! DO NOT REGISTER WITH THEM! All our company’s email addresses have been down for 4 days!! The WORST customer service.
Michael says
I just fired these aholes and moved 500+ domains from them. They are absolutely the worst domain registration company online. Currently, I’m disputing them renewing domains that have already been moved months ago. They’ve also added domains to my account (without my knowledge or consent) and charge me renewal fees for them. Gotta love how they’re screwing themselves out of business.
